About Me
I now work in the Office of International Programs (IP) at Washington State University as the International Center Coordinator. The IP-International Center promotes inclusive global citizenship and opportunities for international education and engagement on campus and in the community. This is accomplished by collaborating with stakeholders, advocating for international student support services and helping to facilitate the extension of student learning from a local to global perspective.
For five years, I was the Master Teacher at the University of Idaho's American Language and Culture Program. At the University of Idaho, I taught all levels of English in a content-based English for Academic Purposes program. I facilitated curriculum revision, materials development, professional development seminars and teacher-training. I assisted with program accreditation and developed and taught special programs.
I have worked in four intensive English programs in the United States with students from around the world for the past ten years. I am currently finishing my PhD in Education at the University of Idaho. I have an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language from Iowa State University. There, I used error-gravity research to inform the tutoring of ESL students at the Iowa State University Writing and Media Help Center. During my time in the midwest, I taught at Iowa State's Intensive English and Orientation Program and at GrandView College. I taught all skills and levels of ESL and worked with international teaching assistants. I coordinated the non-credit ESL program at Des Moines Area Community College where I also taught ESL and Spanish. I received my B.A. in English Literature and Spanish with a minor in American Studies from the University of Idaho. I studied at the University of the Basque Country in Leioa, Spain for a year where I also taught EFL to junior high students.
I am originally from north Idaho and when I am not teaching or pursuing professional interests, I can be found outside recreating in the majesty of mountains, rivers and lakes abundant in this part of the country.
